David J. Novotny

Past President

Silver Measure Recipient (2024)

Biography

David “Dave” J. Novotny is an attorney and co-founder of Chittenden, Murday & Novotny LLC. Dave serves his community as a DuPage Water Commissioner and Elmhurst Veterans Commissioner, and is a Commander, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 187, Elmhurst.

He joined the Elmhurst Symphony Association (ESA) Board of Directors in 2014 and was elected President the following year, an office he held until 2020. During his five-year presidency, Novotny guided the ESA’s board of directors and staff while spearheading numerous administrative, fundraising, and outreach efforts. Among his many accomplishments with the ESA, Dave and his wife Gladys drove the Symphony’s participation in the annual Elmhurst Memorial Day Parade and sponsored the performance of Verdi’s Requiem in March 2018 (Verdi’s Requiem is Dave’s favorite piece).

Under his leadership, the Elmhurst Symphony celebrated Maestro Stephen Alltop’s 20th Anniversary Season in 2016, for which Novotny secured the participation of then-Mayor of Elmhurst, Steve Morely, as Master of Ceremonies at the “Celebrate Stephen” gala dinner and by Mayoral Proclamation declaring April 16, 2016 to be “Dr. Stephen Alltop Day” in Elmhurst. During his term as President, he was privileged to work with a dedicated and resourceful Board, devoted and hard-working volunteers, a professional staff, and of course the incredibly talented Dr. Stephen Alltop and musicians of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra.
