Named Chair Celebrates the Legacy of Lynne Rauscher-Davoust

ELMHURST, IL — The Elmhurst Symphony Association (ESA) today announced the creation of The Lynne Rauscher-Davoust Associate Concertmaster Chair of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra (ESO).

Lynne Rauscher-Davoust (1935-2024) was the wife of the late Merritt J. Davoust, an award-winning educator and public servant, a longtime patron of the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, and annual sponsor of the ESA’s associate concertmaster chair. Upon Lynne’s passing, her estate gifted a sum of $60,456.53 to the ESA. The ESA Board of Directors voted unanimously in October to designate that gift for the creation of The Lynne Rauscher-Davoust Associate Concertmaster Chair, a fund of the ESA endowment, in celebration of the life and legacy of Lynne Rauscher-Davoust.

“I am thrilled to see her legacy live through the Symphony,” said nephew Brent Rauscher. “It is perfect as a remembrance for Lynne and for the symphony to have a lasting impact on the arts in her community.”

The gift and creation of The Lynne Rauscher-Davoust Associate Concertmaster Chair are meaningful milestones for the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. It represents the first named individual chair in the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, the new endowment is anticipated to fully fund the salary of the Associate Concertmaster chair, providing a firm fiscal foundation upon which the ESA can continue to grow and enrich the community through live orchestral concerts.

The Lynne Rauscher-Davoust Associate Concertmaster Chair is currently held by Eli Willis.

The purpose of the endowed chair program is to attract and retain distinguished musicians to the ESO, and to help assure the long-term financial success of the Orchestra. The program offers contributors the opportunity to endow a named chair that reflects their particular interests.

“This shows how passionately Lynne supported our mission,” commented ESA President Linda Kozak, “and how Brent and the whole Rauscher-Davoust family are committed to her legacy. Gifts like these really help to build a bridge to future music lovers.”
